Does A Work/Home Balance Exist ?

Long story short, hell no. Totally kidding *insert awkward laugh*. Balance between your work life and your home life exists if you create it ! So today, my loves, I shall give you tips on how to be the grand creator of your homestyle fate.

What Even Is This Balance ?

When we talk about work and life balance, what are we even talking about ? Let’s start there to make sure we go through the rest of this on the same page. Here’s how HR Zone describes it: Work-life balance refers to the level of prioritisation between personal and professional activities in an individual’s life and the level to which activities related to their job are present in the home.

So there’s levels to this shit. Note that. Write that down. It feels important. My definition of work/home balance is: the ability to keep work things at work and home things at home. Simple. General consensus says that stress is the leading cause of poor work/home balance. Whatever you’re most stressed about, you tend to carry with you everywhere you go. Now let’s talk about what you can do to make this go smoother for you.

Finding Balance

Step number one to finding balance is setting and enforcing boundaries. You’re an entrepreneur so you largely make your own schedule. Stick to it. If you’re finding it difficult to stick to, that means it’s time to adjust it. Instead of attempting to craft your schedule around everyone else’s needs, make sure you’re working during the times of the day when you work best.

If you work from home, it gets a little trickier. An additional great boundary to set is to give yourself a designated work area. I would like to strongly dissuade you from working in your bedroom. It will inevitably blur the lines in your brain and lead to working more and sleeping less. Even if you’re not sleeping less because you’re working. Just don’t even go there, sis.

Manage Your Mind

A lot of the balancing act is mental. As mentioned before, it’s stress that leads to poor balance. Do things throughout the days that make you less stressed overall. This will surely be different for each person. Which brings me to another suggestion: play off your strengths.

If you’re following a path of resistance by trying to excel in your weak spots, you’re going to be stressed tf out. Let’s just be honest. Remember that foundation stuff I’ve been talking about for the last 2 years ? One of them is your SWOT. Ideally, you completed yours before you started your business. If not, better late than never. Complete your SWOT analysis and use it to do more of what you’re good at and figure out how to cut out or outsource the rest.
